Revisiting Reiki



As Reiki has become more popular, I feel the need to revisit and explain what Reiki is. Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that involves the transfer of energy through the hands of a practitioner to promote healing and balance in the recipient. The term "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words "rei," meaning universal, and "ki," meaning life energy.


Here are some quick key points to answer the majority of questions I receive.


What is Reiki?

1. Energy Healing

Reiki is based on the concept that there is a universal life energy that flows through all living things. Practitioners believe that when this energy is balanced and flowing freely, a person is in a state of good health. When it is blocked or depleted, it can lead to physical, emotional, or spiritual imbalances.

2. The Practice

Reiki sessions typically involve the recipient lying down fully clothed while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body in various positions. The practitioner channels energy through their hands to the recipient, which is believed to facilitate the healing process.

3. Non-Invasive and Holistic

Reiki is non-invasive and can be used alongside conventional medical treatments. It aims to help the whole person release what no longer serves them and be open to addressing their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of self.
